My home in Velezizweni

I’m the only white person for miles and miles! I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to say that again in my life 🙂 . I made it though training and have been at my permanent site for just over a week now. My two years of service have officially started! I’ve made my hut into a home and have been spending a lot of time with my lovely family. I purchased a bed, stoven (hot plate/ small oven), and a refridgator! My family let me barrow a few items that I am very greatful for. Here is my place!

Just a quick update this time.. but I am reading a lot and found a quote that I really liked and identified with.

” I felt that somehow I belonged here, I really did, but I could have been in the Congo for how unfamiliar it felt. Staying in a colored house with colored women, eating off their dishes, lying on their sheets, it was something I wasn’t against, but I was brand-new to it, and my skin had never felt so white to me.”

  1. So excited for you! Let the journey begin. I love reading your blog and seeing all the pictures. Make the most of it, you’ll be done before you know it. Sounds like you are right where you need to be! Enjoy.

    Lots of love…
